The ‘Power of the Mother Album’ is my story about what it means to be a mother, a wife, a sister, and a friend and how special needs touch our lives. I wrote, sang, and produced the album to offer love, inspiration and fellowship to our unsung heroes and heroines- the parents, siblings, and caretaker of special needs children.
The first track of the album, “Power of the Mother,” is about my experiences as a NICU mom. Parenting a medically fragile infant was terrifying. A wise neonatologist reminded to never underestimate the power of the mother. His words resonated with my soul and inspired me to search deep within myself to unlock my deepest maternal instincts and believe in my power to love and to heal.
To honor the special needs athletes, I will be a volunteer host for the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles. I am helping the athletes, families and delegates beginning with the Opening Ceremonies on July 25, through August 2. This will be the largest philanthropic event in the world to date!
This year, the Special Olympics will be held from July 25th to August 2nd. It will be the largest event held in LA since the 1984 Olympic Games, including 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches from over 170 countries. There will also be 30,000 volunteers and 500,000 spectators supporting the athletes, with coverage for the various events from 2,000 media representatives.
The Special Olympics organization offers year-round training and competition in 32 various Olympic-style summer and winter sports. The organization provides athletes with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to display their hard work, courage, and talent, with full coverage by the media. The Games has helped shape the positive attitudes toward those with intellectual disabilities.
